Blood Drug Screen
A blood drug screen checks for the presence of drugs in the horse's system at the time of appointment. The blood is sent to an outside laboratory and the results are available 2-5 days after the appointment.

Radiographs
Even if the horse is sound, radiographs can be performed. Some conditions found on radiographs may not yet be causing exterior signs. Some common sites for pre-purchase exams are the front feet, hocks or stifles, or they can be chosen based on the findings of the examination.
