What to Expect When Iowa Equine Arrives for a Farm Call
Scheduling a veterinary farm call is an important part of keeping your horse healthy and comfortable. At Iowa Equine, our goal is to make every visit efficient, low stress, and productive for both you and your horse. Here is what you can expect when our team arrives and how you can help us provide the best care possible:
A Clear Reason for the Visit
When you schedule your appointment, we ask that you provide a clear reason for the visit. Whether it is a wellness exam, soundness concern, dental work, or a specific health issue, this information allows our veterinarians to arrive prepared with the appropriate equipment, medications, and time needed. Clear communication before the visit helps us focus on what matters most as soon as we arrive.
Preparing Your Horse
To keep things running smoothly, please have your horse caught and haltered, located in a safe and well lit area, and cleaned up as much as possible especially the legs, hooves, and any areas being examined. A clean horse allows for a more accurate physical exam and helps procedures go more quickly and safely.
What Your Veterinarian Will Do
When the veterinarian arrives, they will begin by discussing your concerns and reviewing the reason for the visit with you. This helps ensure everyone is on the same page before the exam begins.
Depending on the appointment, the veterinarian may perform a physical examination, assess movement or soundness, evaluate teeth, collect samples, administer treatments, or perform procedures as needed. Throughout the visit, your veterinarian will explain findings, discuss options, and make recommendations tailored to your horse and situation.
Open Communication Is Key
Iowa Equine veterinarians value collaboration with our clients. During the visit, we encourage you to communicate openly about what you are seeing, any changes you have noticed, and your goals for your horse’s care. Be open to your veterinarian’s recommendations. These are based on experience, current medical knowledge, and what is best for your horse’s long term health.
Ask Questions
No question is too small. We want you to feel confident and informed about your horse’s care. Whether you are curious about treatment options, care instructions after the visit, or preventative strategies, your veterinarian is happy to explain and discuss them with you.
Payment at Time of Service
Payment is due at the time of service. This helps us keep our focus on providing high quality and timely veterinary care. If you have questions about accepted payment methods or estimates, feel free to ask when scheduling your appointment.
By being prepared and engaged, you help ensure a smooth and successful farm call experience. We appreciate your partnership and look forward to caring for your horse! Request an appointment or give us a call (844) 238-1840 to partner in your horse’s health.
